Spending 5 years working for Paul and George at Tapner Eventing Team provided me with the all of the fundamental knowledge and know-how to be able to successfully run my own string of competition horses when I decided to set up my own business and yard. For as long as I’ve known them, Paul and George have a very methodical and systematic approach to running an eventing team, meaning that nothing is left to chance and there is always a structure in place that becomes ingrained in those who have learnt from them. I learnt thoroughly about every aspect of horse training, horse management and running a competition team during my time with them. Not only were we taught what to do and how to do it but also always why things would be done in a certain way, which led to a much fuller understanding.
Included in the long list of skills I was taught at Tapner Eventing Team would be the training of horses from unbroken youngsters right through to horses aiming at Badminton/Burghley, good daily routines, feeding practices, tack fitting, presentation/grooming of horses, injury/illness diagnosis, treatment and management, fitness work, competition planning, owner/sponsor communication, assessing a new horse, preparing a horse for sale and team work.

My time at Tapner Eventing continues to inform my daily practices from the preparation and training of competition horses, to stable management, the need for a great team, understanding business management and the importance of a media presence .
Paul and Georgian’s support and guidance gave me an extremely broad education which has been an invaluable foundation throughout my career.

My time at Team Tapner gave me some of the most memorable and valuable experiences in eventing. Thanks to the knowledge, expertise and encouragement of Paul and George, I accomplished more than I ever thought possible, learnt a huge amount and gained so much confidence across every aspect of eventing. In two seasons, they took me from my first ever unaffiliated event all the way through to top three placings at intermediate and a top 10 finish at 2* level. Paul and George are the most hard working, dedicated and supportive team, and I couldn’t thank them enough for everything they helped me achieve.
Margaux Soulie;
When I first arrived at Paul Tapner’s yard, I didn’t know how much my life was going to change.
From grooming at the top level to riding big courses, I’ve learned nearly everything but the main thing I took away from my time there was how to have self-confidence.“Make it happen” that is what they used to tell me!
“If you can imagine it, you can archive it”.
Since moving on, I’ve worked in many different parts of the world, including riding top SJ stallions at a show in South Korea (I would never have believed I could a few years ago!).
You can learn grooming or riding skills probably anywhere, but not everyone will teach you the positive way of thinking, of trusting yourself and knowing everything about how much you want it and how hard you are going to have to work for it.
Paul, George, thank you for everything!
(I even used the sayings above to help me run a half marathon, and I made it!)
