JUNE 2008 REPORT

Jenny and Claus Waalers’ Inonothing (Mannie) had his first run back after his post Badminton holiday at Salperton where the Dressage and Show Jumping were all just far too exciting for him to behave in !

Sue White’s Tiger Flynn (Tiger) has spent June recuperating and will hopefully return to competition in July.

Sue White’s Master Butler (Harry) has suffered from a few different health issues which it seems will unfortunately keep him out of the competition arenas for the near future.

Martin and Suzi Belshams’ Stormhill Michael (Mike) has been having his post Saumur holiday during June and will return to competition work in July.

Jane Gwillim-Davids’ Sensational Sydney (Syd) had some great form at Longleat International CIC** with a 9 th place which is a personal best for him at International 2* level. He ended the month by living up to his cheeky reputation by depositing Paul on the ground knees first halfway around the XC course at Rolleston Advanced ODE, causing Paul some lameness for a few days.

Jane Gwillim-Davids’ Carry on Joseph (Joe) was thoroughly bored with his Novice run at West Wilts ODE and it seems his complacency rubbed off on Paul who was thinking he was pretty good for achieving one of those elusive double clears, had a bit of a shock to discover they had actually missed a fence on XC…. .

Sally and Colm McGinns’ Cheers Woody (Woody) proved how good a horse’s memory is and decided that his crash at Hexham really did hurt and so had problems again at the same type of fence at Longleat International CIC**. He then had a quick re routing to a Pre Novice run at Stonar Schools ODE to build up his confidence again.

The Duke and Duchess of Beauforts’ Giacometti (Jack) had a good run in the Intermediate at Longleat ODE, which he followed up with an 11 th place at Salperton ODE in the Intermediate which was a personal best for him at this level. We now look forward to his international debut next month at Brightling CIC**.

Sue White’s Kilfinnie (Scottie) and Paul have continued to cement their new partnership together quickly with an easy run at Salperton ODE giving them a 13 th place in a hotly contested Open Intermediate section.

Panda Chrisite’s Highspring (Tuk) had some bad luck in show jumping in the testing CIC** at Longleat ODE , where a slip on the flat approaching a combination lead to a fair few penalties . However Tuk redeemed himself later in the month at Rolleston ODE in the Advanced with a 9 th place, his personal best at this level.

Vicki Mace-Benson’s and Georgina Tapner’s Wickstead Didgeridoo (Balloo) is racking up the points quickly with another 2 nd place at Great Tew ODE. He then contested his first Novice Regional Final at Salperton, where with a moments hesitation at the top of a drop he unfortunately gained his first penalties ever on XC.

Robbie and Mandy Burns’ Yogi Bear (Yogi) settled quickly into novice level with a vastly improved Show Jumping round at Great Tew ODE for an eventual 12 th place. But just to keep us all on our toes he had another unhappy time in the show jumping later in the month at Salperton ODE, but he still shows huge promise in the other two phases.

Sam Wilson and Annabel Saunders Snowy Elm (Mullins) Coped well with his novice outing at Great Tew finishing just out of the placings but became a little cheeky at Salperton when deciding that the collie dog toy on the 3 rd from home was all too scarey and so gained some penalties when he was oh so close to a fantastic result, it’s frustrating to know that the dog at his home is a collie...!

Libby and Peter Saugman were finally able to make it to an event to watch their Caicos (Cai) at West Wilts ODE and then again later in the month at Stonar ODE where Libby apparently almost had to physically restrain an enthusiastic Peter from verbalising the jump judge who awarded Cai with penalties for a moments hesitation at a drop fence on XC.

Jenny and Claus Waalers’ Inotheeggman (Egg ) showed great improvements in his second ever start at British Eventing at Great Tew ODE, with a great Dressage and XC round. Unfortunately injury will prevent him from competing again this season and so we await his return next season.

Jennie Thorn’s Dark Moon (Lowry), was another to show great improvements in his second ever start at British Eventing at West Wilts ODE. He continued to improve at a rapid rate at his next start with an impressive 3 rd place at Stonar Schools ODE in the Pre Novice.

James White and Sir Jasper didn’t have the most enjoyable trip to Longleat ODE, with a speedy Dressage not impressing the judges and an extra speedy XC round that saw James and Jasper zoom straight past a fence and so gaining one of those dreaded Es.
