MARCH 2008 REPORT

Family News:

Paul’s father George has celebrated his 80 th birthday with a week long of partying (it was supposed to be just a BBQ on the Sunday but I guess you only turn 80 once!) with friends and relatives at home in Sydney. Numerous photos turned up on the Facebook website very quickly so it seems evident that a good time was had by all.

Team News:

Time is flying by once again, and we have realised we forgot to welcome our newest staff member to the team in last month’s report. James White comes to us from a dressage yard and we have had great fun toughening him up to the ways of a busy Eventing Yard and it is safe to say he is almost part of the furniture now.

Jenny and Claus Waalers’ Inonothing (Mannie) started his Badminton preparations perfectly with a WIN in the Advanced Intermediate class at Aldon retaining his beautiful trophy for another year. Burnham Market was also good for him with a 7 th placing in the World Cup Qualifier.

Sue White’s Tiger Flynn (Tiger) has enjoyed being back out eventing with a 6 th placing at Aldon in the top class and an awesome double clear in the CIC*** at Burnham Market.

Sue White’s Master Butler (Harry) has decided that rolling around in the mud is great fun but that jumping show jumps out of it is not for him and so didn’t enjoy the deep going at Aldon or Burnham Market, hopefully spring will arrive shortly!

Martin and Suzi Belshams’ Stormhill Michael (Mike) found luck third time in the show jumping at Aldon ODE where he put his less than average starts from the last two seasons behind him and picked up a 10 th place. He then really showed his true class to finish 5 th in the CIC*** at Burnham Market gaining a long awaited qualifying result and putting him on track for Saumur in May.

Jane Gwillim-Davids’ Sensational Sydney (Syd) has missed out on competing in any One Day Events during March due to cancelled events and balloting but showed his expertise in the show jumping with a good day at Summer House BSJA gaining 2 nd and 3 rd placings in his classes.

Jane Gwillim-Davids’ Carry on Joseph (Joe) was all class at his season debut with a WIN in the Open Novice section of Somerley Park which was rewarded with another perpetual silver trophy for the mantle piece. Joe also enjoyed a good day at Summer House BSJA with a 4 th place.

Sally and Colm McGinns’ Cheers Woody (Woody) eased into the season with a good run at novice level at Tweseldown and then was another to suffer from the numerous cancellations and balloting and so is still waiting for his next outing.

Vicki Mace-Benson’s and Georgina Tapner’s Wickstead Didgeridoo (Balloo) continues to show his love for his Eventing job with double clears at both of his outings in March at Novice level.

Paul and Georgina Tapners’ For The Wife (Ronnie) is in great form at the moment with good placings at both of his outings including a 2 nd place at Somerley Park in the Novice.

The Duke and Duchess of Beauforts’ Giacometti (Jack) has enjoyed getting back into eventing and has felt like an old pro around his 2 Novice outings and we look forward to putting him to the test next time out over an intermediate track.

The Pre Novice horses, Jenny and Claus Waalers’ The Eggman (Egg), Robbie and Mandy Burns’ Yogi Bear (Yogi), Sam Wilson and Annabel Saunders Snowy Elm (Mullins), Libby and Peter Saugmans’ Caicos (Cai) and Jennie Thorn’s Dark Moon (Lowry), are still awaiting their Eventing debuts but are all training well and we look forward to some good sport with them during April. They have all been out XC schooling and Show Jumping withMullins making an impressive debut at his first BSJA outing at Summer House, gaining his first official prize money with a 6 th place in the Discovery class.
